Casablanca, Morocco (Capital Markets in Africa):- Morocco equity markets indices went back into the green today with the MASI index ending the session up and the MADEX also up as the indices rebounded from losses made in the previous days trading. Market capitalisation increased by adding US$50 million to take it to US$60,445 million.
The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) gained by 35.76 points increasing by 0.37 percent to close at 9,723.19 up from its previous close of 9,687.43 recorded yesterday (taking the year-to-date performance to 1.07 percent). Equally, the Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) increased by over a third of a % (0.39 percent) or 21.87 points to close at 7,971.74 points up from the 7,949.87 points recorded yesterday, (taking up the year to date to 1.64 percent). The FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index was up 28.31 points to close at 8,533.09 points from its previous close of 8,504.78 increasing by 0.33 percent (-3.26 percent year-to-date performance) likewise the FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid index was up by 23.83 points rising by 0.29 percent to end at 8,158,43 up from its previous close of 8,134.60 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to a positive 1.21 percent).
The market activity measured as total traded value recorded an increase to MAD 106,784 for the MADEX index and MAD 114,768 for the MASI index. Out of the 75 component stocks that make up the MASI index, the number of stocks showing a rise increased to 24 while 15 stocks showed a decline and 5 showing no change over the course of the days trading. For the MADEX the 50 component stocks also registered an increase with 21 risers and 13 stocks that declined with 4 showing no change over the course of the days trading.
Topping the gainers were Fenie Brossette which increased +9.43 percent to close at MAD 126.05, LabelVie rose +5.98 percent to close at MAD 1,277, Salafin Group BMCE climbed +5.84 percent to close MAD 678.00 and M2M which increased 5.19 percent to close MAD 213.00.
The five top most stocks on the MASI index in terms of Capitalization saw marginal losses and gains to their capital making them ATTIJARIWAFA Bank with MAD 21,736 million (loss) for 203,527,226 securities at a price of MAD 356.00. ITTISSALAT-AL-MAGHRIB MAD 20,342 million (gain) for 879,095,340 securities at MAD 115.70, BCP MAD 9,830 million (loss) for 173,141,923 securities, LAFARGE CIMENT MAD 8,158 million (loss) for 17,469 securities and BMCE BANK MAD 7,788 million (gain) for 179,463,390 securities.
With regards to sector indices, the top gainers today were Chemicals which climbed by 3.32 percent to 1,082.67 points, Distributors rising 3.19 percent to 19,599.40 points, Investment Companies and Other Finance which climbed by 2.37 percent to 8,685.74 points, Forestry and Paper which climbed by 2.12 percent to 2,184 points and Engineering & Equipment Industrial Goods sector indices which climbed 1.36percent to 353.85 points respectively. On the losers’ side were Leisure and Hotels (plunged by -2.69 percent to 895.64), Oil and Gas (decreased by -0.02 percent to 7,782.93. Holding Companies, Transport, Beverages, Banks and Utilities sector indices recorded no change.
